The Dri-Eaz DefendAir HEPA 500 is a portable air scrubber and negative pressure machine with a two-stage filter system and variable air flow control of 250 to 500 cubic feet per minute (CFM) for mold and sewage remediation, water and fire damage restoration, and dust and odor control. This unit has a first stage standard paper pre-filter that captures large particles, and a second-stage primary HEPA filter rated to capture 99.97% of remaining particles down to 0.3 microns. An activated carbon filter (sold separately) for smoke, or a dispersed oil particulate (DOP) filter (sold separately) for oil particulates, may be used in addition to the first stage pre-filter to extend the life of the HEPA filter. The 8" air outlet can be used with Dri-Eaz rigid engineered ducting (sold separately) for negative pressure applications.

The DefendAir HEPA 500 draws 3 amps on a 115V power supply. It has an auxiliary power outlet that allows users to connect up to three units together for combined air flow speeds of up to 1500 CFM. This unit has a rotomolded polyethylene housing that provides consistent wall thicknesses and strong outside corners for resistance to damage, and can be stacked with other DefendAir HEPA 500 models for efficient use of space. This scrubber is built to comply with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) safety standards.

Air scrubbers are filtration systems that remove mold, dust, gasses, and other airborne contaminants from the air to help improve indoor air quality. They are commonly used in the cleaning, building maintenance, and restoration industries to remove harmful or unpleasant particulates that are already in the air or that have been added to the air by fans, blowers, and other work activities. Air scrubbers typically use fans to draw air through a series of filters to remove the contaminants and then release the filtered air back into the work area. Negative air machines are used to keep particulate contaminants from escaping a sealed area and contaminating other areas. They also use fans and filters to remove the contaminants from the air, but the filtered air is vented through a duct outside the sealed area to create a negative air pressure, or vacuum, in the containment area. This vacuum then prevents the particulates from escaping to the outside through cracks in the containment seal. Many air scrubbers are built with features that allow them to function as negative air machines.

Dri-Eaz manufactures dehumidifiers, air movers, structural drying systems, and air scrubbers for water damage restoration applications, and for the drying, cleaning, and building maintenance industries. The company, established in 1980, is based in Burlington, WA.
